Bob, I just built my K3 2 weeks ago (and a P3 last Friday night). The K3 took about 10 hours to build.
Elecraft provides very good step by step instructions. Spend some time reading over them and then get started. Take your time and you will be fine. You will love the K3. I spent all day Saturday using mine in the NAQP CW contest. It is an excellent rig, certainly the best I have ever owned. Good luck!
