One drawback I think is that they don't provide an ALC output, and the
gain varies quite a bit from 10-160m... so you will have to watch your
drive levels, especially on SSB.

True, they are CBish but the DXpedition to Somalia (6O0N) used them.

I dunno about being CBish - these amps have microprocesser controlled and
manual low pass filters (6), automatic SWR protection, automatic thermal
protection, variable input attenuation plus more. They are nearly the
same
width as a K2. They have a PTT & automatic TX switching, yet no preamp.
Almost every POS CB amp I've ever seen has a preamp. IMHO with a rig like
an Elecraft, a preamp in a linear is just so much gobbly goop. Heck, they
even beep in CW to tell you things, like if you've selected the wrong
LP filter.
Definatley not CB fodder. (IMHO) :-)
I checked several vendors world wide and Googled for a bit. The
regular 150w
model goes for about US $350.00 plus you have to worry about importing
issues
with U.S. Customs. As far as opinions go, I could find very little
written about
them aside from the manufacturer's website. I d/l'ed the schematic and
users
manual and they seem to be well designed and constucted.
After doing so much research, I did find one on eBay for $1/Watt.
Guess someone
out there likes me? Should be here wednesday.......
