Probably totally unrelated, but I once heard something like that (using a different radio) that was caused by the noise blanker being on and picking up a lot of impulse noise on the band. It was most noticed on strong signals 73/72 - Mike WA8BXN -------Original Message------- From: Steven Pituch Date: 02/26/06 21:06:07 To: 'Elecraft Reflector' Subject: [Elecraft] Raspy sounds on 80 meters Hi all, I have been doing CW nets on 40 meters for a few weeks with a lot of success. I went down to 80 meters just now to try an 80 meter cw net, and I am hearing all these NC contest stations. One guy sounds like a buzzsaw. I try to tune him in but the signal quality is awlful. So I go up 5 kHz and find another raspy station... and another... and another. All of 80 meters sounds raspy, even the lsb guys. I go to 40m and 20 meters and the signals seem fine. The filters seem like they are in top shape also. The rig is a K2(#402)/100 with KAT100 and KDSP. Never experienced a problem until now. Any ideas?
