Thanks, Bill.  The KX2 doesn't actually have a "sub" receiver; if you mean dual watch then no, it's rarely engaged unless I'm working split DX. It's not a VFO A/B issue either.  I guess I should update my firmware....I only work CW and my needs are simple so I've refrained from updating so far. The little rig and its amp work so well.....I'm always afraid of screwing something up!!

Stan,
I would try MCU 02.68 and DSP of 01.48 and see if that helps. If you have the unit on SUB receiver you may be looking at two different settings for each VFO and the spread between VFO A and B can be confusing. I use SSB and leave the SUB on. When there are two close signals I have to check both VFO's for same settings. Filters can be different, etc., from what I have witnessed.

Subject: [Elecraft] (KX2) - Randomly Powers Up "Weird"

For the last couple of months my KX2 randomly comes up acting like it has a very tight filter engaged although all screen indications are normal. In plain language it sounds "hollow" as if it were at 50 Hz. Yet all screen indications are normal (for example, it shows 400 Hz from its last use). There are no error messages.

This is very random; not a regular event. When it does occur, all I have to do is turn the power off and then immediately back on and all is well.

My KX2 is connected to an SEC1235M power supply and is also connected to the KXPA100 amplifier. It's always in CW mode because that's all I use. This "weird" power up situation occurs even if the KXPA100 is physically disconnected.

The KX2 otherwise works normally in all regards. My firmware is at 2.61, DSP at 1.46 and PA at 1.32. These are "as shipped" by Elecraft at purchase time. My serial number is 0472.

Just wondering if this little issue has visited anyone else.
