The current AGC setting has little or no effect on the noise when, with an antenna connected and no signal, I turn the AGC off and on but it has a large effect on moderate and strong signals.
------------------ It sounds like your AGC is working properly. I operate my K2 like you do. I do not like hearing the AGC pull the band noise come up loud when I tune off of a signal. I like the hear the bands as they are, with the speaker quiet when I tune off of a strong signal. If I want to hear weak signals louder, I turn up the RF Gain. You can reduce the effect of AGC by leaving it on and turning down the RF Gain Control. That over-rides your AGC, causing it to start reducing gain at a higher signal level. The "S-Meter" will advance as you turn the RF gain down to show the relative level at which the AGC takes over. The advantage of doing that is if you do tune across a huge signal, the AGC will grab hold and keep the speaker from rattling the windows.
