No need to "feel stupid".
Things like that happen all the time.
In all cases of failure, check the connecting cables first. They are
the most likely suspect although the first impression is to suspect a
failure of the equipment. Believe me, you are not the first, and likely
will not be the last (unless everyone remembers this information - not
likely).
