If you get a set of Beyerdynamics velour pads, you'll never go back to that flaky vinyl surface that OEM Yamaha and Sony use.
They may even be to exact same size too , so I'd bet the Sony type will fit the CM-500. I have both and they look identical. They're a tad pricier at about $23 than the cheap Chicom replacements and best price I've found on them is from Sweetwater Music. As a side note, I bought a cheap set of pads for a couple bucks, and they ruined the sound of the Sony's, because they were too small and didn't fit my ears properly. They are now in the trash.
