As a near neighbor to Saguaro National Park at one time I knew the Chief Ranger on a first name basis. He used to keep up with the geocache website and remove caches as soon as they got listed.  As a related activity I recovered some benchmarks placed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s that hadn't been seen since.

For example: https://www.geocaching.com/mark/log.aspx?LUID=8299491b-98ab-4bd2-8b55-776becdc3401

Geocaching ethics require landowner permission before establishing a cache. Of course, not everyone does that.
