Sorta like the Pokémon crazies awhile back..... Also, we have a somewhat older version of these new geo whatever things near us. There's a 6X6 concrete post in the ground with a bronze plaque on it from the US Coast & Geodetic Service 1000 feet from our house. For about a month, 30 years ago I had an RF transmitter in my barn that was used as a locater beacon for a test program that used doppler shift from its signal as a satellite passed overhead. Still have a 2 inch cork in the wall plugging up the hole where the coax fed an outside antenna.
