Good Evening,
The fire feels very nice after being driven off Bald Peak in Yamhill County Oregon. Karl, N7NLU, and I were working two stations in close proximity during the QRPTTF contest. It was fun until the rain came. There were moments where 40 was open and others where 20 was open. He and I traded bands back and forth so we had a fair chance. He stuck to his K1 though his KX1 was ready too. I used my K2 with its original top and ATU. I also used my ATS-3 for a number of contacts. It was interesting to see when each rig would be better than the other. I had a vertical antenna and a doublet so I could switch rapidly between them. Karl stuck to one antenna during the entire day. I tried 15 and 10 but heard nothing. But as long as I was tuned I called CQ QRPTTF on each for a while to no response. I had about an equal share of contacts on twenty and forty meters. I heard quite a few folks who could not hear me though. It was fun. Now I need to get my station back together for tomorrow's nets. If tomorrow is anything like today both 40 and 20 will be open across the continent. I worked stations from coast to coast. No Alaskan stations but I was lower than I am at home and we were near the repeater and VOR towers. As the storm clouds were closing in the static hiss came up. I enjoyed the day outside and working CW at QRP levels. We did get one local contact: W7ZOI was running 500 milliwatts on his favorite band (40). He is one of Karl's neighbors so they chatted a bit. I only know him through his books, website, and CW contests.
Now to get some sleep and put my shack in order.

    Please join us:
