Well, I just checked and switching MIC BTN to PTT has resolved the issue. Thanks!
Looking more carefully, the frequency down-jumping glitch occurs on my KX3 about every 10-20 actuations of the PTT switch - the timing seems random, but is often enough to be irritating.
