And you are right! When developing the KPA500, we went back and forth as to 
which was the best side, so my memory can be a bit fuzzy there. Mine had no 
handle or side feet for quite a while.

There is still significant heat production on the left side since the side 
panel is used as a heat sink for three (I believe) TO-220 regulators. I would 
still get that up off carpet so that at least some air can flow through to 
dissipate the heat.
