In 1980 I upgraded from advanced to Extra. The short story is I took the 2X1 call and received KA1J. Naturally I got a new license to reflect that and when I parked the car at the house, my YL came out and looked at my call & immediately said "That's the perfect license for you".
I had no idea what she meant, the plate said KA1J, so I asked her to explain. She said, "That's right where you belong, in a cage".
