The other day I got myself a GPS-disciplined frequency reference and started going through my rigs, calibrating them one by one.
When I came to my KX2 I quickly found that the reference frequency oscillator calibration procedure, as described in the manual, does not work. (To be really sure, I even downloaded the latest version from Elecraft's web.) What is not mentioned in the manual is that it is necessary to activate APF (to get the 1Hz VFO resolution) or the auto-spot part of the procedure will go astray and you will end up worse off than before. Also, even with APF enabled, REF CAL is only 7 digits, not 8 as stated in the manual. Although not an error per se, I found that since the radio's auto-spot has a small hysteresis (a 2-3 Hz with high resolution tuning) you can do much better by adjusting REF CAL manually, simply turning the VFO knob. With such manual adjustment I was able to adjust my KX2 to an impressive accuracy of 0.04ppm (which of course may not hold over all temperatures and supply voltages.) Have I missed something or have others made the same observations? Or is it just another case of documentation not keeping up with firmware updates? 73, Björn SM7IUN ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [email protected]
