The HW-16 does have a receiver, of course.

I could then answer stations on their frequency rather than use crystals. Major 
step forward.

Remember: I was 15 and had a nuanced imagination.

I later acquired a Hallicrafters HT-37 and SX-111 receiver. Dial accuracy was 
one of their weak points.
