"Nerd Girls" was an oxymoron when I was in high school.  At a drive-in movie in the family car, and not yet having made "The move" to the back seat, she pointed to the Gonset converter on the steering column and asked, "What's that?"  I said, in my most professional voice, "That's part of the two-way radio, here is the microphone for the transmitter in the trunk" and then pressed PTT, the PE-103 spun up and I identified.  She seemed satisfied.  Alas, the corona ball on the top of the 8' whip had come off, the TX created a lively electrical display from the pointy end, the manager showed up at the car, and "The move" never happened that night.
