Sorry to hear about that Bill. I second the thought that not being able to build a K2 does not mean you don't get the pleasure of operating a K2.
I spent a couple of months building my K2. I plan to spend many years operating it. If you skip the building phase and go straight to operating you'll still get 90% of the enjoyment out of the rig. Also, if your condition is intermittent (or even temporary) you might get periods of relief when you could build. I have two damaged parts, that are being sent to me from Elecraft. One is the VFO knob and the other is a resistor network that I had damaged. Included with the kit is the K2 and the sideband option.
