Just a note to say that I have reached the receiver alignment stage of K2
construction (#5216) without too much trouble. My main purpose in the build was
to update my technical knowledge and skills since the days of the Heathkit era
30 years ago. That has certainly been achieved, and it looks like I'll get a
great radio out of it as well. I don't miss the old wiring harness
(white-green-blue wire to lug 35) a bit.
I find Elecraft very helpful and the e-mail list informative (except for
the off-topic threads such as eBay that clog up the digest) and encouraging for
beginners. If I were doing it again, I might start with a K1. And I would buy
the Hakko desoldering gun right away rather than fight and lose with improperly
soldered parts.
On to the transmitter...
