If you have a computer printer, print a little strip that says <-NOTCH 
And tape it in the space on the socket that will be underneath the I.C. and
between the pins so the arrow points to where the notch SHOULD be.

Larry, you are correct  that it will make no difference as long as the IC is
inserted correctly, but I strongly suggest that you manually notch the other
end of the socket (melt the plastic with your soldering iron tip, cut it
with a knife, etc.) or put some permanent marking on the socket or board to
call attention to this situation a year or two from now when you have
forgotten about this error just in case you change the firmware.
