Hello, Contemplating a K2 kit and have glanced over the archives but may have missed one on this subject. My biggest concern right now is ruining components. I haven't built a kit since Heathkit days where this was not as big of a problem. Do I really need a panavise etc. and static mat to work on? I have a little discharging device hooked to the ground on an ac outlet that I use during the winter when the carpeting generates a lot of static and works well to discharge before touching any ham gear. Is this a similar hookup for a wrist strap and possibly a sheet of aluminum as a work top all hooked to the same ground? Unable to get a better earth ground from a second floor condo.
