Thanks to everyone (and there were many) who made suggestions for a project to learn SMT techniques. I've decided to build the AMQRP Micro-908 (see <http://www.amqrp.org/kits/micro908/index.html#Description%202>). They are currently sold out, but expect to produce more kits soon. This is an ambitious project, but what you get is amazing.

I've already built a new work area with a smooth white surface, a powerful lamp, esd precautions, etc. I have an Optivisor magnifier and various little tools that I also use for tiny model railroad thingys. I'm all set to move into a new world of DSP, software defined radio, and who knows what that SMT makes possible!
