I also tried the 3 sec KHz lock procedure on both vfo's however that did not prevent the sync either.

The split mode in this sense is to keep the audio transmitted tone above 1500 Hz and moves VFO B in order to do so. This is not the traditional thinking and operation where one uses split when working a DX pileup. If you have the Split Mode set to NONE in the WSJT-X software, then there is no split command sent to the radio. Thus you can manually select SPLIT via the radio and this allows you to receive the frequency of choice on VFO A and then you can transmit on the frequency of choice on VFO B.
