The OP has a KPA500 and K3S interconnect by an Elecraft AUX cable.  This means 
that ALC is connected (Aux cable pin 15) and opens the possibility that it is 
not configured correctly.  What I don't know is whether incorrectly configured 
ALC could cause the reported problem.  I suspect that would depend on the time 
constant(s) of the ALC loop.
