"Working" rather than working well with a clean signal are two different things.

A K3(S), as well as almost any other "12V" rig, is prone to increased TX IMD as the supply voltage is reduced.  For FD, with reduced efficiency antennas and no amplifiers, it's probably okay, but for everyday use, it would be bad form.
