The fan noise in the KPA500 is less awful than in the KPA1500, which are TERRIBLY LOUD when running high duty cycle, like WSJY-X modes and RTTY when you're running and have worked out the band.
The KPA500 is intended to work with the very nice KAT500 tuner. The KPA1500 comes with a built-in tuner, also excellent.
