The simplest way to test the KNB2 is to rub a screwdriver across Q21 - the RF Preamplifier- a metal case transistor which is visible when the K2 top is removed. That will generate the kind of noise that it is supposed to suppress. Search the archives with keywords "q21 noise" and you will find more about this test.
