Kenwood, Yaesu and Ten-Tec transceivers do not provide bias for
an electret mic at all. To use an electret mic with those
transceivers one needs to install a "power adder" ...

NOT SO,  DICK TRACY.   All three manufacturers provide 5-10v bias voltage on either Pin 2 or Pin 5, respectively - (and have done so for many years.)

Elecraft did operators a HUGE FAVOR  by switching bias voltage ON and OFF with a MENU setting, adding an bonus measure of flexibility (... which is NOT to be corn-fused with any sort of Flex-able Radio! ... after all, this is CHAOS and we don't do that here ... ) ;-)     Elecraft earned bonus points for providing BOTH an 8-pin Foster jack AND a pair of 3.5 mm TRS jacks to accommodate all sorts of microphones and headsets without a middle-man adapter on its larger models - way ahead of the field.   / K8JHR /
