FWIW... I purchased a reasonably priced Tripp Lite U209-000-R Serial Adapter - mini USB Type A - DB-9 - male (U$20) which controls my K2 fine using N1MM.
The only caveat I have with this is that it does NOT key the rig (using the simple 2N2222/1KOhm resistor interface) on CW. From what I hear this is not an uncommon issue with many of the USB adapters. Rather than pull my hair out any further, I bought a K1EL WK2 kit. I've purchased two of his kits in the past and have been very happy with them.
