Hello,

I had a Great short day out on the Appalachian Trail.

Wx was overcast and the temp. was around 77' F.

I was located north of Strausstown, PA about a mile south of rte. 183 at the pond.

I called CQ on 30 meters from 14:00 UTC until 14:20 UTC, no one came back to my CQ so I went to 20 meters.

I worked the following on 20 meters.

K1EJA in ME
K1MLP in MA
VE1TV in NS

Then I went to 40 meters and worked AB1AV in ME.

I was using my K1 @ 5 watts and a vertical.

The bands were strange today, as I worked the New England States on 20 meters I could hear Europe also on the band. I had two hikers come into the area. One hiker was with his dog and two digital cameras. He knew about ham radio and I have seen him before. Started talking to him and he use to be a CW op in the military back in the Korean War. We chatted a little while about who I was working on what bands. He told me that is the past two weeks he has seen deer, bear, turkeys, coyote and bobcat in the area.

Hope the bands are in good shape next week for the BB Contest. I will be out on the Appalachian Trail for the contest.

72 and Thanks,
Ron Polityka
