Fred, take care not to put too much solder on the pins of the crystals when you install them in your new KSB2. One of the most common reasons for low gain is a bit of solder that puddled around the pin under the crystal can where you can't see it and shorting the signal path to the can. Remember, those are plated through holes, so when solder melts and flows on the bottom side, it's melted and flowing on the top side under the crystal too!
