Hi Ian,

I have exactly the same issue. I too am a CW guy and my MH3 only
hangs on a hook. The case "studs" appear to have cracked under the weight of
the cord. I emailed Elecraft support and was told the Mic was no longer
under warranty and I would need to buy a new mic. No one answered my follow
up email asking if I could get a discount on a replacement mic.

In any case I opted to just repair what I have. If you have not
unscrewed the screws from the case and all three studs are broken, like mine
was, the studs can easily be epoxied. I first removed ALL the working parts
from the case. Keep an eye out for the button spring which is just a small
flexible "rod". There was also a small piece of broken plastic which was
used in the cable retainer.

Once the case is emptied out the base where the studs broke can be
accessed. I put a dap of epoxy on the studs and the base. I put a little
inside the actual stud where it meets the base. Next I put the two shell
pieces together and held it in place with a rubber band. After 24 hours I
removed the screws and added more epoxy around the studs for additional
strength. I also epoxied in the broken cable retainer. Just make sure you
don't put epoxy where it might interfere with the electrical parts of the
cord.

After another 24 hours I reassembled the mic and everything
functions as expected. It's a bummer that the plastic casting is inferior.
But with the reinforcement it is now better than new.

Subject: [Elecraft] MH3 mic case

Does anyone know if Elecraft sell replacement cases for this expensive
microphone? I've barely used mine (I'm a CW chap) and it's already fallen
apart! The three plastic internal mounting pillars have snapped off. I guess
it's been dropped, but only on to carpet and I'm minded to think a $70 mic
should easily withstand that.

Last month I emailed Elecraft via their online parts order form, but not had
an acknowledgement. Maybe they're all on summer leave?

Thanks and 73,

Ian, G4JQT
