Boy, that sure does have an Elecraft look to it (panel color, LCD
display, push-button switches)....
As the principle designer of the K2, I have to take a few exceptions to
this comparison :)
The HT-200's minimalist user interface is vastly different from a K2's.
Applying inductive reasoning, it would be even less like anything
bigger than a K2. In fact it has fewer directly accessible functions
than the K1. This may appeal to some operators, especially if they're
only doing voice modes and/or don't need all of the additional
features.
The K2 has 32 functions directly accessible on the front panel,
counting both tap and hold functions. The HT-200 appears to have 5. To
the extent that the rig implements additional functions at all, one
wonders how you get at them. The feature set is also not readily
apparent. Does it have a transverter interface? Receive antenna jack?
100-W amp? DSP? Remote control?
How do you adjust the keyer speed?
Does it offer functions such as TUNE, ANT1/2 selection, crystal filter
selection, audio filter selection, CW message record/play,
voltage/current display, SPOT, VFO reverse, direct keypad frequency
entry, etc.?
If there's an ATU, how do you activate auto-tuning? Does it provide
multiple antennas?
How do you turn on RIT or XIT, change modes, access memories, back down
the RF GAIN, turn AGC or noise blanker on/off, etc.? I get the feeling
that the "FNC" button is going to get a real workout.
Disclaimer: This may be a case of apples vs. oranges :) But I
believe I've fairly characterized the difference between the two in
terms of the user interface, which I feel is an important aspect of
radio operation.
