Has anyone given thoughts or efforts to finding and addressing the
source of the noise? All of these electronic concepts are great, but
would not finding, reducing or eliminating the source be more
effective. I seem to think so from my personal experience of tracking
down noise and resolving same.
Start with the radio on a battery as the power source. Then drop the
mains power. Note the noise level. Then restore mains power and
observe the noise. That my friends is coming from your house. This
should be easy to find and correct. Power distribution systems noise
are more challenging to find and correct. But with a bit of cooperation
from the power company that can be accomplished as well.
From my experience and work, my noise level on most all bands, 160M -
6M, is S-2 to S-3, excluding atmospheric noise of distant lightning.
Winter will correct that.
