I fully agree, eliminating EMI at the source is best. What if there are several 
EMI /RFI sources nearby?
In my semiurban environment at night, I often have EMI in SSB BW 160m = >S8 , 
80m=>S7, 40m=>S6 on a calibrated S-Meter ( S9=-73dBm/50uV@50Ohm( SWR mostly 
<2), 1 S-Unit(IARU) =6dB).
QRN crushes in summer on 160 and 80m ( 2x36m Doublet @24m) push the spectrum 
baseline (AGC Mid) by 20 to 10dB easily.

Of course that's the ideal solution, and of course lots of people have done (or 
tried) exactly that and it often works.  But I doubt very many people are going 
to have much luck getting their neighbor to replace their cheap solar 
converters with better ones, and I doubt many people are going to convince the 
owners of the adjacent condo to replace their cheap wall warts ... especially 
since lots of neighbors aren't all that happy to have hams next door in the 
first place.

And hams that live in urban areas with industrial businesses nearby aren't 
going to get very far at all.

If it was as simple as you pretend, rig manufacturers wouldn't have bothered to 
build all sorts of noise reduction features into their equipment.
