Hello all. I am new to the reflector and have a new K2/100, S/N 5553
that I am really enjoying.

I am noticing a couple of strong spurious signals on 17m..18.088.4
(S5), and 18.104 (S4). I am running the RS232 output to my laptop,
and when I unplug the serial cable on the laptop, the signals
disappear...EVEN WHEN THE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF!!

These are the result of mixing products of harmonics of the 18 MHz bias oscillator in the KPA100 and those of some other oscillator in the K2. There were some suggestions which may or may not help to reduce the strength of these spurs on the N0SS website, but I can't seem to find them. I did reduce the strength of some of my birdies by beefing up the bypassing of the bias oscillator output, both on the RS232 and PIN diode sides, but was not successful in eliminating them altogether.

By the way, unplugging the RS232 cable probably doesn't make the birdie go away; it just changes the frequency a bit!
