You also have to consider the power dissipation of the regulators. This will vary with the heat sink if any o each of them.

You can connect diodes in series with the power input. The voltage drop will e the junction voltage plus the the IR drop due to the current. You can find out the total drop by measuring the current drain and going to the spec sheet on the diode used. The spec sheets can be found by doing a Google search on the part number of the diode used.

As far as I can tell it would work just fine.

I went through the schematics and found all of the components (I hope) that use the unregulated input voltage and researched them on the net. The results are:

Part            Description   Max Input Voltage
ZR78L06   6v regulator   20vdc
LM2930    8v regulator   26vdc
LM380      Audio Amp   22vdc
LT1252     Audio Amp    28vdc

I looks like the 6v regulator is the limiting component at 20vdc max input.
