Depending upon voltage and current usage -- you can also us the 2N3055 and
2N3772.
Very Common NPN transistor in TO-3 case -- used in solid-state amplifiers of
the 1970s and 1980s as well as pass transistors for many Linear Power
supplies.
Routinely see these at $1 each at hamfests as well as JimPak component
retailers as well as normal mail-order part houses -- Mouser, etc.
