I agree with Bob. I found that the KAT2 was able to load an antenna
that my Kenwood TS940S couldn't (on 160m), so I was pretty impressed at
that time. I'm trying to scratch my head to think of any antennas that
I've used that it didn't load, but can't think of any. Of course not
all antennas worked great just because the K2 was able to make up for
the mismatch!

Hi John
My only suggestion would be to move the K160RX to Phase 1.
If you plan to work the Stew Perry, you need the 160m band.
Plus it gives you Aux receive port, invaluable on 160 where it
lets you use a quiet receiving loop. That KAT2 includes 160
already, but the K2 itself has to have the K160RX as well.
If you don't plan on using a computer with the K2 for logging
etc, you could move KI02 to Phase 2.
Of all the options, I'm most impressed by the KAT2. Darned
hard to find something it won't load.
Good luck and 73

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Purchase - opinions?
Hello to the reflector,
I am getting ready to order my K2 system and wanted to run some ideas
across the group first.
1. I am looking to build a K2 for QRP operations like Field Day, FYBO,
and StewPerry.
2. The K2 will end up becoming the 28mhz IF for my existing
transverters once the system is complete. (Historically I am more
active on VHF/UHF/Microwaves than on HF.)
With that being said here is the plan that I am thinking about using.
Phase 1: K2, KSB2, and KAT2
Phase 2: KIO2, K60XV, K160RX
Does that plan of attack make sense? It will take me a while to find
the time to get the basic HF rig completed so I don't see any reason
to order the other kits until the base is complete.
Thoughts? Any gotch ya's that I should be aware of with a plan like
this?
I would like to place my order this week. :-)
Thanks, JH
