I don't think there is a need for the delay to be incorporated in the monitor audio - it should be possible to either put the delay after the take off for the monitor or have a separate path though the DSP for the VOX detection. Understand and agree with your findings though, I have an SDR-1000 and the latency in the monitor makes it impossible to use with headphones.

But an unintended consequence of the design is that the transmit audio monitor is, at least for some users, difficult or impossible to listen to. I prefer to monitor my audio to be able to quickly detect problems, but find I have to turn off the monitor on an 870. If an audio delay is used in the K3, I suggest that it should be possible to adjust or at least disable it as a configuration option.
