The other option that I was initially confused by is the General Coverage Bandpass filter option.
Yes, the K3 will allow SWL General coverage without buying this option and -yes- some of the SWL bands will be attenuated unless you purchase it. Elecraft has this "Cafeteria plan", where you pay for the options that you USE, not the things you don't. This starts you out at the low $2000 range for a base radio in the premium class and allows you to work up to the $4000 Base price that the others offer. I try not to get hung up on the semantics of that "transverter module". Anyone that does not use a transverter, need a bandscope output, or have a second antenna is thrilled to be saving $79 on his radio. If you want any specific item - pony up and enjoy!
