Good Evening,
The QRN was not too bad this evening. Enough to cover a few of you until QSB brought you up a few notches, but not painful as it normally is Sunday evenings. The oddest note I heard was on NM7N, who lives in Beaverton, Oregon. He sounded like he was over the pole and I was hearing auroral scattering. Karl had a very watery signal as Tom checked him in. How odd, he is only about thirty miles away. On twenty he was great copy but normally he and I cannot work each other because my antenna shoots right over him. Now that we have entered Autumn the sun sets moments before the second net begins. As the darkness arrives earlier we should experience better propagation for ECN/40 now that Daylight Savings Time has been extended. Let us see how it effects the twenty meter net. When I got started on 14050.50 kHz I heard knocking. So I got up and checked the door. No one was there. I sat down only to hear it again; this time I localixed the sound to the roof. Sounded like they were trying to bang their way through to me. I think it was a crow; even the Steller's jays don't pound that hard. Now that the trees have been thinned the crows can see my house. Previously they did not have enough room to maneuver.

Hopefully propagation will continue to improve over the coming weeks. Soon there will be more K3s coming on line and I hope they join us. Should be quite a party :) Now to get the dishes done and put away so I can work on a little code before bedtime. Next week I should be running the net from this room instead of near the wood stove. I am moving everything out of there for a few weeks while construction makes a mess of the front of the house. Dry wall dust and my radios and computers would not mix well. I'll miss having the space but hope it is only for a short while. I know I'll not be able to get all the drywall sanded before I seal the house up for winter so I will have to move a number of times. However, each time I move the computers and radios their various cables are dressed more appropriately. Seems like when a radio or computer system is put in place wires get added and only make a mess. When you can start from scratch with all of the cables and accessories handy to the task the lines lay in a more orderly fashion. Well, practice should make perfect ;)
Stay well until we meet again,
      73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
