Hi Bob; That's correct, the 3CX1500A7 and D7 are completely different tubes. My remarks were from experience with the 3CX1500A7, the 8877. I don't know anything about the D7. If the tube is a 3CX, then it's a Triode (unless the coding has changed).
If you're interested, you might have a look on the Eimac WEB Site. I think it's kept current. CPI and Eimac/Varian have business offices in Palo Alto, CA. Richardson is not the only vendor for the 8877.
