The two receivers (main K3 receiver and optional KRX3 second receiver) are identical and neither one has good "BC coverage" by itself. If you want good reception outside the Ham bands, add the KBPF3 to either or both receivers. What do you mean by "switch sepatate antennas between the transmit and recieve with reciever protection."? The basic K3 has one antenna port. It is used for both RX and TX with the receiver protected during TX. If you want to switch the receiver(s) between a dedicated RX-only antenna and the TX antenna, add the KXV3.
