If you have a Vista machine, I'd recommend you get the Device Driver from Microsoft Update. That's what I did, and I test with Vista and a KUSB with this driver every release of the K3 Utility (I'm doing daily builds).
I understand that there's a major internet outage in the Far East that may be the cause of the outage. Give it a little while... I have a K3 and a PC running Vista. If you have a "real" RS-232 serial port, you need do nothing. If you're going to use a KUSB USB-to-Serial Adapter, plug it in, and get the device driver from Microsoft Update. Just follow the prompts. I'll copy the paragraph I have in the "Blue Screen" section of Help into the "USB Troubleshooting" section of help.
