Thanks to everyone for the responses that I received. I've checked the mic plug and it seems to be fine. It is now working again as before but, it will probably stop working. Since it's been working, I've checked the output on different bands. I switched from RF to ALC display and noticed that on 20 meters and higher, the display shows a maximum of two bars at most on voice peaks. On 40 and 80 meters, it shows five to six bars on voice peaks. Each time it has failed I have been on 40 meters. As Don suggested, it is as if it is over driving the ALC and it is happening on 40 and 80 meters but, not the other bands.

Also I didn't have the jumper installed for pin 5 since I don't use the preamp in the mic. This is the configuration it was originally in when I started having the problem. Just out of curiosity, I installed the jumper for pin 5. When I turned on the K2 all I got was "ELE" and that's as far as it would go. I took the jumper back out, and the K2 comes up normally.

Another thing that I thought I might check is the soldering on the mic jack on the front panel board. I remember having a bit of a problem soldering it and I wasn't exactly sure of how I should solder it. The jack will move a little when I screw the mic plug in. What I mean by that is the entire mic jack does NOT move but, the eight pin assembly in the jack will rotate about a sixteenth of an inch or so. As I remember, I had a problem getting the solder to flow and I had to keep the tip on longer that I wanted to. I should probably just replace the entire mic jack if that might cause this kind of a problem.

Thanks,
Gary, N7HTS
