Hi Dave A high percentage of us are dedicated kit builders and previous Elecraft customers :-)
The K2 was sold as a kit radio, and look how many have gone out so far, over 6000. My own feeling is that if I build a radio, if it ever needs to be worked on, I have no trouble lifting the lid and rummaging around in it. After all, I put all those little pieces in place myself. Same applies to doing mods to the radios or upgrades. True, the K3 comes more as an assemble-it-yourself kit, rather like assembling a computer. Even so, for many of us there is a desire to know what goes on under the hood, and putting the pieces in place is a good start. I'm still waiting for mine, probably April at best at this point. 73, Bob N6WG ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Hachadorian" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Elecraft Reflector" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 22, 2008 12:40 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 - Why buy a kit? > I ordered a K3 (assembled unit) last week, and signed onto > the reflector. > > Since then, I've noticed that the vast majority of units > being delivered are in kit form.
