You wouldn't walk up to a stranger on the street and pay attention to his
opinion on anything... you don't know who he is or what he does (or doesn't)
know. Same thing goes for Eham... it's nice to have a place to express an
opinion, but you can't take anything at face value... you have to consider
the source. Just like real life. And if you can't figure out anything about
the source, the opinion isn't of much value to you.
Just my 2 cents.... y'all be careful out there....

I don't know why anyone takes any notice of eHam reviews. People post
them
five minutes after they have got their new toy, and they are either still
over the moon about it and give it 5 out of 5, or else they couldn't
figure out how to make it work and slag it off as a heap of junk. You
rarely find anyone posting a considered opinion after they have used
something for a few months.
Frankly I don't know how anyone can justify giving 5 out of 5 to a radio
that still lacks major capabilities like FM TX/RX and dual RX, not to
mention the various minor issues that people have found and asked to be
improved on. Something deserves 5 out of 5 if it is the best in every
respect. One day soon hopefully the K3 will meet that expectation, but it
isn't there yet.
The key word here is "opinion". Even if someone has owned a piece of
equipment and reviewed it after 10 years, their eHam review will still
remain only an opinion. Maybe better but not necessarily. Very few hams
have
the equipment to do an in-depth analysis to lab standards. Most hams are
simply going to comment in the best way they know how. Over-all you either
get something from someone elses review or you don't. Sometimes helpful,
sometimes not. In the long run, though, I would rather have eHam reviews
than nothing. It is at least some way of making ourselves collectively
heard
by the manufacturers. I do believe some of them actually listen.
A major key feature of the K3 is the modular design. I don't have to pay
for
things I don't need. The items that I paid for all work just fine and, as
far as I'm concerned, my K3 is already "there".
The K3 is the slickest thing since no-lick stamps and deserves a 5/5. Of
course, that's just my opinion :-).
