Footswitches that are -very- durable can be found
in the machine tool industry. I have one fitted to
my drill press, for example. I have a friend who has
one on a grinder.
GE two-way radio catalogs may still list them. They
are/were "serious", and are found in Forest Service,
FBI and law enforcement dispatch centers.
