Good Evening,
It was a wonderful week to cut, split, and stack wood. The biting flies
were few and the sun was out a little each day. Today that has changed.
Clouds came in from the north, the wind kicked up, and the temperature dropped
again. The fire feels good; you can ask Sam - fire warden. Now I have about
two months worth of wood prepared for next winter. It will dry rapidly because
this is from the tree I topped about two years ago. It is still rooted but
lying on its side. Looks like I will get about four months worth of wood out
of one tree!
I am currently listening on 40 meters. It is much quieter than it has been
for a long time. Hopefully this will hold for tomorrow. Twenty meters was
good a few days ago until just before dusk. Then it went away. We held an
ARES exercise on Thursday with 2m FM simplex. Conditions were odd because
there was QSB. I had never heard 2 meters like this before. Part of the
exercise was to quote signal reports in both directions. During a contact
strength would vary greatly so often the reports were in ranges instead of
discrete numbers.

Please join us tomorrow evening.
