When someone answers a CQ, I am busy typing in their call sign and not able to simultaneously adjust RIT. So, while my response transmission is going out to them I can adjust the RIT. I've already heard their signal and can blindly adjust the RIT for optimum copy when they come back with their exchange. Then, my TU message (or subsequent CQ message) clears the RIT to be ready for the next caller.
